Artist Statement

How am I a commercial Artist.

I create art, because it is a means of expressing myself and allows me to be able to leave my impression on society. Art is a means of life for me, it’s how I survive, how I live, I some times fear what my life would be like without it (literally and figuratively). I’ve used several mediums in my life, starting with pencil, pen sharpie markers, to illustrator, photoshop, flash, however my passion is sepia on canvas. In 2012 a story about Joseph Kony, leader of a guerrilla group in Uganda went viral. I was inspired to make personal art that reflected this situation. Working on this art satisfied my personal artistic desires, and needs. Ultimately helping me be a more productive and efficient artist in other areas of my life. I use art as a way of communicating, expressing my feelings on society as we live it, today. I believe that I accomplished this in the artwork that I have submitted. In 1997, at F.I.T. there was no longer a demand for me to study figure drawing, I still drew. With out direction I used anything that I could as a muse. I drew portraits of friends, celebrities of that era, trees, cars, buildings. This drawing is of a famous rapper of that time period Notorious BIG,

I drew this illustration at Farmingdale for a figure drawing class in 1996. The original size for this art work is 34 inches width b 20 inches height. The project was to draw a five minute sketch of a live model (Christine) using sepia chalk, onto tan construction paper.

I drew this Illustration at Farmingdale for a figure drawing class in 1996. The original size for this artwork is 20 inches width by 34 inches height. The project was to draw images using different mediums and combining them into one full artwork. I decided to use one image as a muse and to break that image up using water color, and sepia, with two different styles of the sepia chalk. I received an A for this project.

I created this postcard for Jimmy Jazz, a large retail chain, in 2011. I chose to use vector artwork for this project. Did not create brand logos.

Bronx artist, I created entire artwork.

I created this banner ad for Hudson Community college. This banner, was from a larger campaign. I did not create the Hudson logo.

In my career, I realized the most effective art, is current art, that reflects our immediate time on this planet. In 2012, the story of Joseph Kony made international news. As an artist I quickly saw an opportunity to express my opinions, in my own way. I created this artwork in the form of a movie poster. A boy born in Uganda, grows to become a journalist. He then returns to Uganda to bring light to the subject. I later won an award for this artwork in 2013. I composed this layout from stock photos, utilizing photoshop and illustrator to arrange character placement, type, and color.

This is a book cover that I created for "The Little Prince" By Antoine De Saint-Exupery in 2011. Keeping the theme of the actual story, I used stock images, composed the layout, and created fun artwork in illustrator, to create a playful mood. The illustrations represents the kinds of artwork being drawn by the price. I had entirely to much fun on this project, I enjoyed producing artwork for such an amazing story. I've created more book layouts, however this one stands out because it exposes my range. I composed this layout from stock photos, utilizing photoshop and illustrator to arrange character placement, type, and color.
